Monday, Monday

Haven't got much to talk about today. Just a few bullet points (mostly baseball related), for your reading pleasure. ;)
  • Opening Night @ the new Nationals stadium was last night. The Prez threw out the first pitch & there were some distinct boos in the crowd when he was first introduced. I was both surprised & unsurprised.
  • Per the previous bullet point, did you know that baseball season is starting again? :) Here's MLB.com's cock-eyed, optimistic look @ the 2008 season.
  • In fantasy sports news, I am currently 1st of 12 & 4th of 12 in my two baseball leagues and 9th of 29 & 11th of 17 in my two March Madness brackets. Clearly, I should stick to America's pastime.

(Fairly) Lazy Sunday

Not a bad day today, kids. However, around 2am, when my car refused to start, it was looking pretty bleak. ;) I smartly took this as a sign that I should not be driving & toddled back into the GSBB's house to borrow a contact lens case, a pair of sweatpants, and half of her bed.

In the morning, she, I, and le femme Francais (a grad school friend who studied in Dijon) got up around 10. Luckily, the cursed car started (hurrah!) & I dropped it off @ my house. The girls work at a store in downtown Portsmouth, so we headed thataways. LFF opened up the store, while the GSBB & I got the coffees at BNG. We also ran into The Accountant, which is pretty much always awkward. ;)

After waiting for what seemed like forever for a road race to go by, we nipped back to the store, I took breakfast sandwich orders, and ran down to Dunkin's in lff's car. When I got back, we enjoyed our sandwiches in the sunny window of the store & I had one of those "I live in a place where people vacation!" moments. :)

In the afternoon, I did some packing, i.e. took my artwork off the walls. I know - I suck. Then, I headed next door to see my new apartment & room, took some measurements, and signed the sublet agreement with the soon-to-be-out roommate. The new room is actually larger than I thought it would be & has a skylight! That opens! Hurrah!

Spent the evening watching TV, trying to catch up on emails, and
hoovering an order of chicken kickers & a medium cheese pizza. Tomorrow, I have a shitload of outlining & packing to do, but today was almost worth it. ;)

Long Overdue Dating Update

I know, this has taken me forever to get to. I looked back & realized that I promised to write about my dating life back on February 27th. Not that I really thought that any of you were on the edge of your seats. ;) Anyways, here's the current update (complete with new nicknames!):

Who's Out:
The Pilot (finally): He's been persistent since we first met @ the end of October, but I finally realized last week that he's only interested in trying to hook up w/ me, not being a valid contender for the role of boyfriend.
The Mechanic: Pretty much his choice, but fine w/ me. He had told me he wasn't ready for exclusivity, anyway. "Gun-shy" was the phrase he used, I believe. Of course, I heard from the GSBB's brother that he's dating some girl in Maine, so guess he got over it. ;)
The "Long Distance Crush": Meh. The initial attraction, fanned into a crush through Facebook & a couple of consecutive parties, has faded. I think much of it had to do with the fact that he seemed such a lovely combination of a scholar & an outdoorsy guy. That's a knockout combo for me. :)
Navy Guy: Two dates, both of which went ok. However, at the end of the most recent date, I realized we're two very different people, with different outlooks on life. Like, for example, I don't call gay people "queers." (pause for effect) Yeah, I was pretty outraged, too. Bye-bye, Navy Guy!

Who's In:
D.B.(who needs a better nickname): Met him @ the beginning of the month. He's a friend of a friend (Married Art Teacher). Only 1 official date thus far, but it was fun & it scored me an invite to his 30th birthday party last Saturday. Things seems good thus far. I'm not drooling over him, but he's really funny & charming and finds me hilarious. Who can argue with that?
Sports Center: Remember the old friend from college who I "sparked" with on that weekend @ the Cape? Well, he made a business trip to Portsmouth last week & we had dinner @ MoJo's BBQ, then drinks @ the Brewery. It was a really fun night & we're just so damn comfortable with each other, having been friends for eight years. :) However, he lives in Burlington, VT, so I'm not sure where things are going to go from here. Stay tuned.
Super Trooper: Another friend of a friend (the GSBB). We actually met back in November & got along well, but he had a girlfriend @ the time. They broke up in January & he's been hinting to the GSBB & her friend that he's interested in me. We saw each other a few weeks ago, exchanged numbers, texted like crazy, and were supposed to have dinner last week. However, he bailed because he was hungover from St. Patty's. While I'm not that mad about it (it's St. Patty's Day! In New England!), I'm leaving it up to him to contact me to schedule the rain date. ;)

And finally, the "Oy Vey" category:"
The Ex: I know - why is he here? Caity & Eileen
already know this, but I saw him in Southie during the St. Patty's parade. After meeting up with him & his friends when my college friends bailed on me (thanks, guys!), I ended up walking him home because he was pretty drunk. One thing led to another & we may have kissed. No worries, though - we're not getting back together. I'm not really sure why it happened, but I know that much.

I love that I'm ending on that awkward note. ;) Night, all!

Happy Red Sox Day!

So worth the 5:45am wake-up time.  :)

So Close to Real Baseball

We're so close, you guys! For those of you not keeping countdowns, here are the stats. As of today, we have:
  • 3 days until the first regular season game (Sox vs. A's @ the Tokyo Dome, first pitch @ 6:07am EST)
  • 10 days until the first U.S. game (Sox vs. A's @ McAfee Coliseum, first pitch @ 10:07pm EST)
  • 17 days until the home opener (Sox vs. Tigers @ Fenway, first pitch @ 2:05pm EST)
Plus, one of my fantasy leagues drafted last night & the other will draft tomorrow night, so I'm really tasting spring right now. :)

Tourney Pick 'Em

Had to post this because I know it won't last. At the moment, I'm 7 for 7 in my March Madness Yahoo tourney picks. That makes me tied for 1st with probably thousands of other people. ;)

But hey, it gave me a tiny thrill. :)

"Bad Men" at Bat, Good Men in Life

I am very proud of the Sox right now. Read this story: Stipend dispute appears resolved. Then, tell me how you could not be. :)

The Personal Thing I Wasn't Sure I Was Going to Blog About

I decided to, however, for the sake of the cats. In brief, my landlord/housemate passed away this week. Naturally, things around my house have been completely upside down. The executors of his estate, who (luckily) are really nice people, have been in & out sorting things out.

I'm going to have to be out of the house by around April 1st. Luckily, our next-door neighbor is in need of a roommate & it seems easiest for me to move in with him. I'm going to start packing soon & things will be a little more topsy-turvy for awhile. Hopefully, though, by the beginning of April, I'll be re-settled.

As alluded to before, my landlord had two cats. They are curmudgeonly old farts, but really quite nice once you get to know them. We're currently keeping our ears open for anyone who wants a cat, as we'd hate to bring them to the shelter & possible euthanasia. So if any of you are looking for a grumpy old cat or two (or know of anyone else who is), let me know. ;)

Busy, busy

Lots going on these days: some fun dating things, some busy school things, some exciting summer-plans things, and some personal things that I may or may not write about. Either way, sorry for the radio silence this past week. I had a good weekend in Boston, celebrating St. Patty's Day (a little early). Here's a great cookie to make you jealous. ;)

P.S. I just walked down to the BBQ joint for dinner & I have to say: you know you're living in an Irish-heavy region of the country when a restaurant that specializes in "Arkansawce" still has Irish fiddle music playing on March 17th.

My Weekend in 4 Photos

This was really hard to do, as I took a grand total of 111 photos this weekend. ;) However, I present to you "my weekend in 4 photos."
Small Town College alumni Celtics game on Friday night with two college friends, Married Art Teacher & Co-Captain

Ridiculously fun time the same night at Daedalus with Married Art Teacher, The Artist (high school best friend, above), her boyfriend, and a few other friends.

The whole crew @ the bar. Damian (left) spliced all of our straws together into one giant straw, with which to drink beers from three feet away. Much hilarity ensued. ;)

Back in Portsmouth for the GSBB's party on Saturday night. Here we are @ the Page with her freshman year roommate. The chair I'm sitting in? Had wheels on it. It was both the best & the worst idea ever: we were all zooming around in our chairs & playing bumper cars!

About to head to bed . . .

but I just wanted to share how I spent my evening. A friend is housesitting, so I passed the evening in my bathing suit, drinking champagne in an outdoor hot tub, and staring up at the stars. :)

Sometimes life in Cow Hampshire is pretty darn good. ;)

I knew it would happen eventually . . .

It's official - I'm addicted to Facebook. When I first joined, I only knew a few people & wasn't all that worried that it would become an addiction. However, now it's a full-blown one. I check it as often as I'm online & that's pretty often.

I've decided the main attraction is the broad spectrum of friends who are on there. In one Facebook "session," I can contact friends from: elementary school, middle school, high school,
Canada, undergrad, study abroad, Scotland, blogging, and grad school. I can also upload tons of photos & tag those same people in them. How can I resist? ;)

So if you're as addicted as me (and not a creepy peripheral friend), look me up!

Dancing with the All-Stars

Lowell puts on dancing shoes for charity

This was amazing. :) I saw the re-cap during the spring training game today & I'm still giggling. You guys, Dustin Pedroia took off his shirt! And danced terribly. But as the GSBB said, "I'll still marry him, even though he has a fat belly." ;)

Nephew Pics!

Two cute pics of the boys that my sister sent me today:
Thing 1 helping "clean" the kitchen floor

Thing 2 chilling in his bassinet in a rare awake moment
