You're Invited!

(to wait around patiently while I finish my wedding invitations)

Sorry for the silence over the last few days. Justin and I have spent much of the weekend printing, assembling, stamping, and embellishing our wedding invitations - 101 in all! Technically, 102, but we gave my parents their invite awhile ago because we wanted them to see it in person sooner.

I promise more posts this week, perhaps one on how to stay a happy couple whilst cutting & gluing envelope inserts until the wee hours. ;) Stay tuned.

Signs of Spring

Ahhh - we're getting there. Slowly, but surely, we're getting closer to spring. Last week, I found little snowdrops outside our apartment window (photos at the top). Then, today I noticed a bunch of small purple flowers (crocuses?) on the grounds of one of the museums where I work (photos on the bottom). How nice to finally have signs of spring!

Tug on the Heartstrings, Much?

So the other night, Justin and I were leaving my sister's house after I met with a hairdresser for my hair trial (check out Wer Ond Wif in a day or so if you want to know what the heck that is). As we were getting ready to go, Thing 1 was loitering about in the hallway. I went over to give him a squeeze and a kiss goodbye and he said, "Auntie, where do you sleep?"

"Well," I said, a bit thrown, "Uncle Justin and I get in the car and we drive about an hour and then we are at our house. That's where we sleep."

Thing 1: "Why do you have to go back?"

Me: "Well, I have to go to work tomorrow and Uncle Justin has to go to school. Like Mommy and Daddy go to work and you go to school."

Thing 1: "But why can't you live here with us?"

. . .

A very sad Me: "Aww, we'll live in this town with you someday, ok, sweetie?"

Then, my mother texted me this morning to say that Thing 2 had just asked her, "Where are Auntie and Uncle Justin?"

Oy - the tugs on the heartstrings are getting to be too much. We might have to move back to Boston sooner than we planned!

March Posting Fail

I realized today that I've only posted 6 times thus far this month, which puts me at a rate of one post every 3.83 days (I'm also a little bit of a math nerd, apparently). Boo to that. It's been a busy month, but aren't they all?

I'll do my best to throw posts up a bit more regularly, especially since this month is my fourth anniversary with good ol' Hodoeporicon. Yup, that's right - almost 4 years ago to the day (3/27/06), I started out here with this little post. That's some kind of crazy.

UPDATE: In a hilarious (to me, at least) coincidence, I happened to glance at my Blogger Dashboard after I posted this. And according to that page, this is post #600!

Southie Parade Day!

Three things to note about this year's Southie Parade Day:
  1. It was wet, wet, wet.
  2. There was drama (minor, but entertaining)
  3. And we had tons of fun.
Also - one of my favorite moments was when we attempted to buy champagne (for mimosas) at 10:20am in Quincy. The store lady judged us hard as she told us that alcohol wouldn't be for sale until noon. "It's Sunday," she said, with a slight curl to her lip. "We know," I asserted. It's not like I spent every Sunday boozing, ma'am. Just once a year.

Will post pics if my friends ever post theirs!

Not One, But Two

Flat tires, that is. That's how many I got on March 3rd when I drove over a curb in South Boston on the way to meet friends for an alumni Celtics game. Sigh. To my credit, the curb stuck out pretty far into the road . . . but still. Luckily, we were able to get AAA to tow the car to a garage right near my friends' apartment and they were able to change the tires in the morning early enough to get me to work and Justin to school on time. I hate weeknight car drama, though.

THEN, the following Wednesday, I was walking into the grocery store near my office to get some lunch and I heard a loud bang and someone yelling. I turned to see an old man lying in the nearby crosswalk with the SUV that hit him alongside. Along with many other passersby, I ran over to check on him, pulling out my phone to call 911 on the way. Emergency services came along pretty quickly and took him off to the hospital. I think he probably broke his hip, based on the way he landed. As for the stupid woman who hit him - I have no sympathy for her. As I said to both Justin and my mother, he was a 91-year old man with a walker. How fast could he have been going that she didn't see him?!?! Oy.

THEN, later that day, I had the experience that prompted my cryptic statement at the end of the other day's post. I work at a museum and we have a small gift shop that sells reproduction arrowheads. An older gentleman came in that afternoon, saying that he had bought some arrowheads for his grandkids over the summer, they loved them, and he wanted to get some more for their classmates. This gentleman then proceeded to examine, in painful detail, each and every arrowhead that we had in the shop and even the ones in back stock! Annoying though that was, the kicker was when he noticed broken-off edges, licked his thumb, and rubbed it on the arrowheads. !!! He then proceeded to put those arrowheads, fresh with spit, back into the basket for sale. As I said before, nothing in my 28 years of life experience prepared me to tell a grown-ass man not to lick store merchandise.

What a weird week.

Week of Weirdness

Sorry for being AWOL since last Friday, but as of today, I've worked every day in the month of March. And this particular week of that month? Has been plain old-fashioned weird.

I will write more about this particularly odd incident in an odd week later, but may I just say . . . nothing in my 28 years of existence prepared me to tell a grown-ass man not to lick the merchandise.

What a teaser, huh? ;)

Songs in my Head

Thought I'd share a random sampling of the songs I've really been enjoying on my commute lately. Potential hipster trolls, take note. I know that I learned of these songs from the commercial radio station WFNX, which means you've know about them since 32 B.C. I know this - save your breath. ;)

Broken Bells - The High Road

Bon Iver - Skinny Love

Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix - Lisztomania

No embedded video available, but here's the link.

Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition

Ditto from above, but here it is.

Forgot to post this one. Love it.

Gorillaz - Stylo

Linkety link. Also: hello, Bruce Willis. What are YOU doing in a Gorillaz video?

Brothers . . .

While my mother was recovering from her recent hip surgery, I spent a few days babysitting the little monkeys. I had so much fun hanging out with them at their house & getting to snuggle them every once in a while (when they were too slow to escape).

One thing I got such a kick out of is the developing relationship between them as brothers. They both race around the house like maniacs at times, but Thing 2 is two years younger and can't always keep up with Thing 1. Sometimes, when Thing 1 has dashed off to his room or the kitchen or wherever, Thing 2 looks around, realizes he's gone, and takes off after him, hollering "Come back, [Thing 1], come back!" It's seriously the cutest thing. I die every time.
