Artsy Fartsy

This is what happens when it's nearly midnight and you realize you didn't take a photo of the day.  An artsy, overprocessed shot of the duvet.  Good thing we're almost done here, as I'm clearly reaching.

Brunch!

Today, for the first time in over a month, we were both home and had nothing to do.  Huzzah!  The weather was meh and we both have colds, so we scrapped our out-of-the-house plans and spent the day reading & eating.  It was glorious!  Pic is of our pancake brunch on the porch.

To the Bonnie Prince!

Sitting at dinner tonight, we realized that we had a nip of Drambuie on the bar that we bought in January 2009.  We decided we should probably drink it at this point.  We had it in little port glasses that we bought here on Orkney in April 2011.  And I took this shot of the glasses & nip.  LOVE the image.

Moon River

Lovely moon tonight, as I walked the pups down the street.  I got home from work, walked the dogs, took out the trash & recycling, and did the dishes.  Justin came home from class, looked around, and said, "You got so much done!  Are you on cocaine or something?"

The Barn

Love this barn across the street from our house.  I've mentioned it before (I can see it pretty well from the hammock) and I love this shot I took tonight when returning from a dog walk.  We live right next to the highway, but it's nice to have this rural feature still standing.

Being a historian, of course I've looked up the history of the barn.  This photo is taken from the farm's historic structures report (done in 1984 by the local historical commission).  They thought the house dated to around 1830, but the barns (there are two) were built in the early 20th century.  This big one has a stable on the north side (left in this photo), a lean-to addition on the south side (right), and a windowed square cupola. I just love it!

The Last March of the Houseplants

Please excuse the slightly silly title (referencing this).  I'm re-reading LOTR, so I've got many references from the book on the brain.  The overnight temps last night went below 40, so I brought the potted hostas and the palm in from the yard tonight.  The hostas will overwinter in the basement and the palm will go back into the living room.  They're all on the porch now so they can gradually adjust to warmer temps indoors.  The porch is a little crowded, but a lot green tonight!

Oh, and just two more weeks in my 365 project.  Can't believe it's been 50 weeks!  After it's all over, I'll write a post about how it went and how it felt.  I think I'll keep posting images a lot (since I'm still in love with my phone and Instagram), but I am looking forward to more text-heavy posts in the future!

Autumnal

A nice, breezy autumnal dinner on the porch tonight.  And pumpkin cider in those Flying Goose mugs!

Brief Peace

Well, this scene of peace lasted for about 30 seconds - me, a book, and both pups on the porch tonight.  It was nice while it lasted!

Trees & Tolkien

Home from the wedding, swinging in the hammock, and doing some light reading.

Wedding!

Had a wonderful, looong day yesterday celebrating our friends' marriage!

Happy Pups

A bit of a cheat today, as my dad took the photo above and I just processed it.  The pups are at the lake house while their parents have drill and a wedding.  We miss them, but they seem ok with it.

Fleeting

Haven't had a hammock-view pic in awhile!  Spent some time after work swinging in the hammock with an apple, a book, and a beer.  Good companions, all.

Old Man

Awww.  Does that look like the face of a dog who shat on the bathroom floor today?  Poor thing - he's 13 and on steroid meds to help with his allergies (which cause him to gnaw at his itchy paws until they're raw).  The meds seems to be helping, but they have to side effect of making him drink & eat more, which of course makes him pee & poo more.  But hey - bathroom floor!  Gotta give him props for knowing that's where to do that kind of thing!

Some Progress

Well, I didn't get as much done on the garden house this weekend as I'd hoped, but I had to fit in priming around a friend's wedding and a birthday cook-out for Justin.  Here's what I did - all twelve bays of the ceiling and the upper part of one wall.  More to come as I find the time!

Sheddy Shed Shed

My future office view! Replace pile of dirt with brick patio, though.  Hoping to do a final cleaning and first coat of primer on Saturday morning.

She & Him

I had kind of a single girl evening tonight.  Justin just started classes for the semester and his Wednesday class runs until late.  So I:
  • went shopping on the way home from work (NOT my favorite thing to do, but I needed shoes for the wedding I'm in next Saturday)
  • walked the dogs when I got home (photo above)
  • made some pasta for dinner
  • practiced on the fiddle while it cooled (I like cold pasta for dinner when J's not home)
  • and ate dinner while watching HIMYM reruns.
Now, many of those things I would do with him home, but sometimes it makes me feel like a single girl to do them without him.

Friday, Friday!

Yup, this Friday, Justin & I are going to see the President, First Lady, VP, and VP's wife in Portsmouth!

We found out yesterday that he is coming to Strawbery Banke, where I used to work.  I quickly sussed out more details, scheduled a meeting for Portsmouth after work, and attempted to get tix there.  But after driving by twice and seeing the line wrapped around the Obama for America office, I headed south to less liberal climes, i.e. the Hampton office.  They had a few people in line and tickets available after about a twenty minute wait.

So excited for Friday!

A Puppy Picture

OK, enough with the birthday boy.  I like this shot of the puppies relaxing in the shade on the deck.

Lake!

The birthday boy again, tapping away on his phone on the screen porch this morning.  And up in the corner, a reminder that we're on lake time.

Birthday Boy

Justin's 27th birthday is tomorrow and as usual, we're spending the long weekend at the lake to celebrate.  I took this shot of him this afternoon, when our neighbors took us out on their boat to the local restaurant for margaritas and food.  Not a bad birthday weekend thus far!

Have fiddle, will travel.
