The Breath of Babies? That's just weird . . .

Today, I went to lunch with some co-workers at Russo's. Russo's is a farm stand about which everyone in my office is batshit crazy. As in, today three separate carloads journeyed there & back (in an office of sixteen people). As in, "I have five dollars in my bank account, I will use that to get my Russo's fix instead of having any money at all."

Anyway, they have a great flower selection & I love to browse. As we were leaving, I noticed my co-worker A. had purchased a small bouquet for his wife. I asked what flowers were in it & somehow the subject of baby's breath came up (don't worry - there was none in this bouquet). Both my co-worker R & I like baby's breath on its own, but can't stand it as a filler in bouquets. I thought about it, then announced from the back seat, "You know who loves baby's breath? Women who keep stuffed animals on the back window shelf of their cars. That's who likes baby's breath!" Ladies - are you with me on this one? ;)

Stuffed animals that they won at carnivals filled with Sawdust. Or that came with their carnation and babysbreath bouquets on valentine's day purchased at Hess. Babysbreath for some reason reminds me of 80's prom and wedding hairstyles with the comb adornded with baby's breath holding up one half of the permed hairdo.

I didn't know it was called baby's breath - I've always called it gypsophila. Baby's breath sounds much nicer! But the flower itself is a bit... meh. It reeks of carnations bought from a petrol station at 6pm on valentines day!

My favourite flowers are freesias and dendrobium orchids.
